CHAPTER XXIV
MELODIES AND FIGURES
To prepare for harmonizing given Melodies with Figures, and in review of the foregoing chapters, let the student supply the proper Roman Numerals and Figures, where needed, in each of the following exercises. Write beneath each chord the Roman Numeral corresponding to the Root of the Chord. Indicate with the Figure 6 each First Inversion. Indicate with the Figures J each Second Inversion. Supply the necessary sign for a chromatically raised Third of a Chord. Indicate at the beginning of each exercise the Scale in which it is written. This is real Harmonic Analysis. Always try to imagine the effect of each chord. A#erwards play each exercise through slowly and see how nearly you were right. |
